H1B Visa 101
(Everything you need to know as an SLP, PT, or OT about the visa process and beyond)
About the Visa
The H1B visa allows SLPs, PTs, and OTs from countries outside of the U.S. to live and work in the U.S. under our sponsorship. Mediscan does not just sponsor your application, but actually takes care of the paperwork so that you don't have to. Our legal counsel, which has over 15 years of experience working with H1B applications, examines and troubleshoots every single application to ensure that your experience is hassle free. More importantly, we cover all the expenses for premium processing, which means your visa process is expedited, and you can move on to thinking about more important things—like your exciting new job possibilities.
Transferring Jobs
Mediscan encourages and accepts SLPs, PTs, and OTs who transfer from other H1B sponsoring companies or those who would like to transition from US-based masters programs (under the F-1 student visa) and post-masters practical training (known as OPT, or Optional Practical Training) to extended work options under the H1B visa. Mediscan makes the transition seamless with new H1B visas often completed within 2 weeks of application.
Green Card Sponsorship
The H1B visa is unique in that it is a dual intent visa, which means that employees can enter the country and work under the H1B visa while also applying for and processing a green card application.
Mediscan offers green card sponsorship and helps guide you through the green card process, providing trusted legal advice every step of the way. Obtaining a green card can be a long process with multiple factors influencing your chances. In addition to your own educational background and federal mandates related to your country of origin, the sponsoring company is also put under the microscope. The more established, financially sound, and reputable your sponsoring company, the better your chances for a solid application. Mediscan has been around for more than 15 years, has nationwide recognition, and has facilitated green card applications for a number of years. We are confident that our sponsorship serves as a distinct reinforcement in your path to your permanent, green card status.
SLP/PT/OT Requirements for H1B Consideration
- TOEFL/ IELTS equivalent for natives of non-English speaking countries
- Evaluation of Educational Equivalence for coursework completed outside of the US
- ASHA, APTA, or AOTA certification, respectively

Maintaining Support
We understand that moving to a new city can present challenges both in and outside of the workplace. And moving to a new country? Well, the challenges are sometimes multiplied. Even though living arrangements might be secured, questions about child care, a grocery item you've looked all over for, and other everyday experiences can often remain unresolved.
Our office staff devote themselves to answering a diverse array of questions, ranging from everyday issues to advice about securing visas for your spouse or family members. Recognizing the need for multiple networks of support, we also work to create a community with mentoring relationships among our H1B employees. We understand that sometimes the best person to ask is the one who's gone through the process themselves. At the end of the day, Mediscan's family wants to make sure you feel welcome and at home.
